Marin Voice: Early childhood: What will our return on investment be?
By Amy Reisch AS THEY SAY, you get what you pay for. And I’d suppose the inverse is true: You don’t get what you don’t pay for. That is, why would anyone expect a substantial “return on investment” if the investment was never made? Where investing in people is concerned, the best bet according to…

By Mary Jane Burke, Jenny Callaway, Kim Mazzuca and Amy Reisch Posted: 04/29/2013 05:23:00 AM PDT WHILE FOLKS around the nation celebrated “the Week of the Young Child” (April 14-20), Marin County is celebrating all year long thanks to the Board of Supervisors. We want to applaud the board for passing a resolution, presented by First 5 Marin, officially declaring 2013 as “The Year of the Child.” It’s a nonbinding document, but a tremendous statement of purpose and intent — and that is a significant step forward for the children and youth in our community. The resolution is also supportive of the work currently underway in our schools, nonprofit agencies and community organizations to meet the needs of all students and their families. The Year of the Child resolution reads in part: “Marin County shares this dedication to the good health, school readiness and general well-being…
